An accessible website enables all Internet users to have easy access to its contents, including people with one or several forms of disabilities who are using specialized software or hardware.
It notably allows to:
- browse with voice synthesis and/or braille touchpads (mainly used by blind or visually impaired Internet users),
- customize the display to suit users’ needs (larger font size, color modifications, etc.),
- browse without a mouse, with the keyboard only or using a touchscreen.
To this end, the site must meet strict standards during its conception and updates.
What HiPay does for accessibility
- Contents are concise, clear and simple.
- Rather than overloaded pages, the interface offers:
- a single column per page (to facilitate zooming) for a linear and logical layout,
- structured text using HTML5 (<h1>, <nav>, <label>, etc.),
- images and graphs to illustrate texts,
- color, form and descriptive text combinations to make it easier to understand buttons (rather than only using colors),
- wide enough click zones.
- Images are described (tag alt =).
- The interface is designed to allow users to browse across all pages with a keyboard.
